Bread

my bread did not turn out very well. the crust looked good but the inside was super doughy and didn't taste very good. i think it may have been the bread i used which may not have had a high enough protein content. better luck next time

Our Daring Bakers Host for December 2011 was Jessica of My Recipe Project and she showed us how fun it is to create Sour Dough bread in our own kitchens! She provided us with Sour Dough recipes from Bread Matters by AndrewWhitley as well as delicious recipes to use our Sour Dough bread in from Tonia George’s Things on Toast and Canteen’s Great British Food!

Filipino desserts

Catherine of Munchie Musings was our November Daring Bakers’ host and she challenged us to make a traditional Filipino dessert – the delicious Sans Rival cake! And for those of us who wanted to try an additional Filipino dessert, Catherine also gave us a bonus recipe for Bibingka which comes from her friend Jun of Jun-blog.

Croissants

The Daring Bakers go retro this month! Thanks to one of our very talented non-blogging members, Sarah, the Daring Bakers were challenged to make Croissants using a recipe from the Queen of French Cooking, none other than Julia Child!
so i LOVE croissants and i watched the video of julia maybe ten times but this just didn't work out for me. i made the dough and it was so time consuming that i got a little bored... me with my teenage brain :) so i made one batch that i forgot to take a picture of but it tasted okay... stuck to the pan a little... i think that if i hadn't given up on the dough it would've turned out but i thought it was going to be a disaster and that i was doing everything wrong! this is mostly due to the fact that when i was rolling the dough and cutting it, it kept ripping and seemed to thin and then didn't rise.... i will definitely try this in the future though!

ps. i think i'm late.... sorry i thought it was the 28th! oops

TRUFFLES!!!!!!!!

The August 2011 Daring Bakers’ Challenge was hosted by Lisa of Parsley, Sage, Desserts and Line Drive and Mandy of What the Fruitcake?!. These two sugar mavens challenged us to make sinfully delicious candies! This was a special challenge for the Daring Bakers because the good folks athttp://www.chocoley.com offered an amazing prize for the winner of the most creative and delicious candy!

I had a lot of fun ruining the kitchen and creating some great chocolate masterpieces! i had a little problem with keeping the chocolate tempered for the last rounds of truffles because the chocolate would cool fast and i don't have many slots in my chocolate molds.

i made three flavors.
s'more-- bittersweet chocolate filled with marshmallow frosting and graham cracker crumble (plain)
salty caramel--semisweet chocolate filled with salted caramel (caramel drizzle)
spicy chocolate--bittersweet chocolate filled with a spicy chocolate ganache (gold/red paint)

Jana of Cherry Tea Cakes was our July Daring Bakers’ host and she challenges us to make Fresh Frasiers inspired by recipes written by Elisabeth M. Prueitt and Chad Robertson in the beautiful cookbook Tartine.

I had no problems with this month's challenge! it's not the usual type of dessert i would make so it was fun but i think i prefer the more technical challenge like the baklava :) as it was only my second challenge i'm still not taking too many risks beyond the recipe but hopefully in the future i will be able to make more variations to recipe to make a really interesting dessert like i saw some other members did. i did use the orange cake and sprinkled the top with orange zest and it tasted amazing!!!! thank you for this challenge!
